What is the root chakra? It is the first of the seven chakras and is located at the base of the spine. This energy is associated with the earth element and the color red. The organs and glands associated with the root include the adrenal glands, colon, kidneys, spine, bladder and large intestine. The root chakra encompasses the base of the spine, the pelvic floor, our legs, feet, anus, and large intestine. The root chakra is one of grounding. It is our root and connection to the earth and our experience here on the planet. To be grounded is to know your place on the planet. To be one with her. To draw from her energy and share with her yours. To draw from the wisdom of the trees. To embrace the powers the elements have to offer. To deep root into the crystalline grid. To stand strong in your power and gentle in your compassion.
A healed root chakra allows you to stand strong through any storm just as the well-rooted tree. You stand with power, confidence, and grace. Your foundation is solid. You are well nourished and give yourself the care you need to stay of a healthy mind, body, and spirit.
An unhealed root Chakra can leave us in survival mode. When we are in survival mode our main goal is to just survive. Having our basic needs met is all we can take on. We give just enough to ourselves to sustain life. There are different reasons we get stuck here a lot of which can happen from childhood trauma. Nonetheless, it is up to us to heal ourselves.
The root chakra is also related to our subconscious mind. Our roots hold the memories of our experiences here on the planet. These stored memories act as filters, in that we experience new experiences through the lens of these filters. When we have a new experience, our subconscious mind searches for a relatable experience and then we either have a positive, a negative, or a neutral reaction. Our reactions to each experience include both that of thoughts and emotions. I feel, and I think. This takes us to the next two lower chakras which relate to our emotions ( sacral chakra), and our thoughts ( solar plexus).
When we look at the associated organs and glands we can see how an imbalance in our root chakra may play out in our physical body. The adrenal glands aid with our metabolism, our immune system and our stress response.
